Making its debut in 2013, the third generation of the Toyota Vios is slated to receive a mid-cycle update for the 2017 model year. According to the most recent reports, Toyota’s sedan will be updated with a brand-new engine and automatic transmission. Other than that, the 2017 Toyota Vios list of standard equipment will be extended, whereas the new range-topping Exclusive trim will add a number of high-end features. Just like its predecessors, the upcoming Vios sedan will be manufactured at Toyota’s Thai facility. Expect the updated model to bow at the upcoming 2016 Bangkok motor show.
2017 Toyota Vios Engine Upgrades
As mentioned above, the 2017 Toyota Vios has been announced to bring some significant upgrades in the drivetrain department. Namely, the old 1.5-liter gasoline engine will be replaced with a new 1.5-liter Dual VVT-i capable of running on E85 biofuel. Instead of the old four-speed automatic, the upgraded version will feature a continuously variable transmission with a seven-speed manual mode. The engine’s output is rated at 108 hp and 140 Nm, which is actually slightly lower than the previous version when it comes to torque numbers. On the other hand, the 2017 Vios should offer improved fuel economy and better drivability. Unfortunately, the E85-compatible engine will be available exclusively on the Thai market, while the other markets can expect a regular version of the same unit.
2017 Vios New Equipment and Trim Levels
As far as the safety gear is concerned, the 2017 Toyota Vios will bring a longer list of standard amenities. The new model now comes standard with ABS with EBD and brake assist, as well as Vehicle Stability Control. Expect also to see a number of enhancements when it comes to the infotainment system and interior trim. Now, the all-new Exclusive trim introduces a body kit with integrated LED daytime running lights, a new wheel design, as well as some chrome accents. Inside, the Vios Exclusive will host a gray dashboard and door trim, seats covered with black leather upholstery, and a piano black steering wheel and gear lever. As for the infotainment, the new range-topping model will be equipped with a T-Connect system that includes a seven-inch touch-screen and Bluetooth connectivity.
